A sink that won't drain on a Saturday is a bad situation. Leave it alone long enough and you're dealing with water damage - not just a slow drain. That's exactly what we walked into on this one.
The culprit wasn't what most people would guess. The blockage was tied to where the A/C condensate drain line ties into the sink drain. When that connection gets gunked up with buildup, it can restrict flow through the whole drain line. The sink had nowhere to go but up.
We cleared the blockage and cleaned out the tubular piping under the sink - the P-trap assembly and the drain connections that see a lot of buildup over time. Once everything was cleared, we ran a full flow test to confirm the drain was moving the way it should. No shortcuts.
Here's the thing about drain issues like this - they're easy to ignore until they're not. A slow drain becomes a standing puddle. A standing puddle becomes a cabinet full of water. Catching it early, or getting it handled fast when it does happen, makes a real difference in what kind of repair bill you're looking at down the road.
Drain cleaning is one of those jobs that looks simple on the surface but requires actually diagnosing where the problem starts. In this case, it wasn't just soap scum or hair - it was a less obvious connection point that most homeowners wouldn't even think to check.
