A leaking pressure vacuum breaker is one of those things homeowners tend to ignore until it becomes a real problem. A slow drip turns into a steady leak, and before long you're dealing with water damage, failed inspections, or worse - contaminated water getting pulled back into your supply line. That last part is exactly why backflow preventers exist, and exactly why a failing one needs more than a temporary patch.
Here's what we were working with on this one: a 1-inch PVB assembly that had seen better days. When a PVB starts leaking and basic repairs won't hold, the right call is a full replacement. Trying to keep a compromised assembly limping along just pushes the risk further down the road. We pulled the old unit, set up new PVC pipe runs, and installed a fresh Febco assembly - properly oriented and secured so the system can do its job.
Byron Jr handled this one start to finish. He's BPAT-certified, which matters more than people realize. Backflow work isn't just plumbing - it's a licensed, regulated service. The certification means Byron knows exactly how to test, evaluate, and replace these assemblies to code. No guesswork, no shortcuts.
Once the new assembly was in place, the pipes got wrapped with 20-mil PVC pipe wrap tape for added protection. The finished install is clean, tight, and set up to keep backsiphonage from ever becoming a concern. That's the whole point - protecting your water supply from contamination that can occur when pressure drops unexpectedly in the main line.
Backflow prevention is one of those services that doesn't get much attention until something goes wrong. If you've got a leaking PVB or you're due for annual backflow certification testing, we can handle it.
